Physical Standards
The physical tests for each Board vary. Check to see which physical assessments you will face.
Press-ups
Males must complete 44 press-ups and females must complete 21 press-ups in two minutes. Arms should be fully extended with your hands shoulder width apart, legs should be straight and off the ground. Bend your arms and lower your chest to just above the floor then fully extend your arms again.
Sit-ups
Both male and female candidates must complete 50 sit-ups in two minutes. Using a mat, lie on your back, knees bent at 90°, feet flat on the floor and secured. Your arms should be crossed over the chest with fingertips touching the shoulders. Sit up until your upper body is in a vertical position then, under control, return to the starting position, making sure your shoulder blades touch the mat before you start the next sit-up. You should not flick your hips or bounce off the mat for extra momentum.
Multi-Stage Fitness Test (MSFT).
This is a shuttle run conducted over a 20-metre track. The test is maximal and progressive - an increasing number of shuttles have to be completed within an ever shorter period of time. A successful pass is roughly comparable to a 1.5 mile run completed within 10.5 minutes for males and 13 minutes for females.
Obstacle Course.
Candidates must clear as many obstacles as possible within three minutes.
500-Metre Run (SCHOLARSHIP, WELBECK AND PQ BOARDS ONLY).
This is a timed, best effort run, up and down a gravel track.
