What's going on

The whole of our Brigade (1 Mech Bde) is deploying to Iraq next year so most of our current work is preparing for that. As part of the training there is a long exercise in Belize which the Battalion has just deployed on. It will be a thoroughly testing exercise, the jungle being widely regarded as the most difficult of terrains to operate in. After our return from there we have Christmas leave and then several months of training specific to Iraq. The deployment dates are not completely finalised yet, but the tour dominates the calendar of events for next year. We should be back by Christmas 2007.

On a light note, a new Wolfhound has arrived from Ireland. He is the Regiment's 14th Mascot and is called Fearghal. He sleeps in the pen which the Royal Welch Fusiliers built for their mascot and is already enormous.
