THE CAREER AND THE QUALITIES REQUIRED

The qualities we require are those which make you an inquisitive individual who is naturally curious and situationally alert.  We look for people who can think laterally and quickly and act appropriately.  You must be honest and courageous.  You'll often need to balance conflicting opinions and sources of information.  Then you will have to stand aloneOfficer Career in front of senior military personnel and argue for your assessment of the risks and how you have come to your conclusions.  And sometimes your opinion will count for human lives.

High intellect is important, but there is much more required.  You will have to keep up with the Infantry, and for some Special Duties you will have to exceed the best standards of weapons skills and physical fitness. Responsibility will come early but the result is a fast career track and a huge range of job opportunities.  And a lot of transferable skills that are particularly relevant to the 21st Century.

An important characteristic is adaptability because the rule book in Intelligence and Security is always being re-written.  We need people with the initiative to calculate the correct risks and plan for any outcome.

The Skills of the Intelligence Corps can be transferred directly into civilian employment.  If you decide to leave the Corps before 22 years or the age of 40 (or whichever comes first), you will have transferable skills that are highly valued by hundreds of organisations and companies.  Languages, IT, Security, Risk Analysis, Management- you could be an expert in any or all of these.  If you leave after five years, the Army will help you relocate and support your job applications.

The Intelligence Corps has its own agency that links prospective civilian employers to Soldiers and Officers leaving the Service, (ICAREC)
