UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT
The history of The Rifles is long and illustrious. Although The Rifles were formed in 2007, our antecedent regiments can trace their histories back over hundreds of years. Unlike the rest of the Infantry, who throughout history wore standard regulation uniform, the dress and equipment of light Infantry and then rifle regiments evolved as a result of the realities of warfare - operating across difficult terrain and against enemies who were not willing to stand in line and fight.
To that end, the use of cumbersome items of dress and equipment was not appropriate. Uniforms were adapted and specialist equipment introduced. Many of these continue to be worn today and are part of the rich heritage carried forward by Riflemen in the 21st Century.
