The Rifles Capbadge Small

The Royal Green Jackets Museum Regimental History Annual Awards Scheme

Aim: To encourage study of the history of The Royal Green Jackets and its antecedent regiments.

Requirement: To write an original article, fit for publication, about any subject or matter germane to the history of the Regiment, including its Regular, Territorial and Cadet elements and those who served in them. Source material used to write the article is to be indicated through cross-referencing to footnotes and/or a bibliography. Inclusion of supporting material, e.g. maps and photographs to aid understanding and illustrate articles, is encouraged.

Eligibility: Anyone who wishes, other than Royal Green Jackets Museum Trustees, may submit an article for consideration for an award. Articles that have previously been published or submitted to others for publication will not be eligible.

Submission: Articles, which must be typewritten and accompanied by an entry form addressed to the Chairman of The Royal Green Jackets Museum Trustees, may be submitted at any time.

Criteria for an Award: The Royal Green Jackets Museum will judge submissions on their originality, relevance, interest, quality and the degree of research involved. Awards will be determined on merit and not in direct competition with others. Special consideration will be given to awards to serving members of the Regiment, especially junior ranks, and those from younger age groups.

Awards: Awards will be monetary. No single award will exceed £250, with awards only being made when the quality of the submission or circumstances justify. The Royal Green Jackets Museum Trustees' decisions, which will be influenced by the total amount of money available for awards annually, will be final.

Regimental Gallery now in use

The Regimental Gallery is now open. The Gallery provides space for temporary exhibitions, lectures, meeting and corporate entertainment. When not in use by others, it is available as a reading room and a quiet area in which to carry out individual research. If you are interested in using the Regimental Gallery for corporate entertainment or a private function, please contact the Curator, Major Ken Gray (Tel: 01962 828549).

Historical Material Wanted

If you have any historical material relating to The Light Infantry or The Royal Green Jackets and their antecedent Regiments - documents, photographs, medals, pictures or items of general interest - the Curator of The Rifles Museums at Winchester, Major Ken Gray, would like to hear from you (Tel: 01962 828549). You would be surprised how items of little apparent significance can be of value to the Museums. If you have no further use for such items, please donate them to the Museums.
