Third Battalion (3 PWRR)

3 PWRR

3 PWRR is the Territorial Army Infantry Battalion for the South East of England. Its soldiers train on Wednesday evenings and on one weekend a month, plus an annual training period of two weeks - in the UK or abroad.

The Battalion is operationally focused and often has TA officers and soldiers deployed supporting the Regular Army wherever it serves. They take time out from their normal civilian jobs - which are protected by legislation - to experience life at the sharp end of the British Army's work today.

The Battalion has bases all over the South East, and they are easy to get to. Why not come and visit to see us training on a Wednesday? Just call the number at the bottom of this page. Here's where we are.

  • Hampshire: Portsmouth (D Company with Machine Gun Platoon)
  • Kent: Canterbury (Battalion HQ and HQ Company, Regimental Band, Communications, Logistics, Transport and Medics)
  • Kent: Dover (HQ Company Platoon)
  • Kent: Rochester (C Company)
  • Surrey: Farnham and Camberley (A Company with Mortar Platoon)
  • Sussex: Brighton and Worthing (B Company)

3 PWRR is proud of its record on operations. Two soldiers have recently been awarded the Queen's Volunteer Reserves Medal and an officer the MBE. At home, the Battalion is often in the headlines. Personnel from PWRR recently won both the TA and Regular Queen's Medal at the prestigious Bisley shooting competition.

Life in 3 PWRR is not all about 'green' training. The social life is great and opportunities for sport and adventurous training are good.  If you show commitment to the core military training, the Battalion can offer you courses in skiing, sub-aqua diving, sailing, parachuting, canoeing, mountaineering and more. Sport is also a popular in 3 PWRR; which has its own football team.

Serving with 3 PWRR as an officer or soldier will give you an unrivalled experience. It's an adventure you shouldn't miss. You will gain life skills and qualifications that will help you progress in your civilian career. If you show the potential, there is the opportunity to rise through the ranks and find yourself in command of infantry soldiers. Or you can take one of the many specialist management routes available.

Many of our people regard the Battalion as an important 'second career'. Some have been with the Battalion for years and have trained and served all over the world.
