Regimental Selection at Sandhurst

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

At Sandhurst you will make your decision through what is called the Choice of Arms Process.  In this you will first find out about all your options across the Army, then receive presentations on what each of the Arms and Service branches of the Army do before refining your choices down to two regimental preferences.  You will then have the opportunity to visit both these preferences, one of which we hope will be the Yorkshire Regiment.

Your visit from Sandhurst will be together with the others from your intake looking towards us as the Regiment they may wish to commission into.  This is your opportunity to confirm in your own mind that The Yorkshire Regiment is the team of officers and soldiers where you will have the most to contribute and where you can make the best of your career in the Army.

The final stage in the process is the Regimental Selection Board.  This is held early in the 3rd Term at Sandhurst when all officer cadets seeking to join the Regiment are interviewed by a panel of senior Regimental officers, headed by the Colonel of the Regiment, after which, if you are successful, you are offered a commission in the Regiment.

For those looking towards the infantry, you will find that each Regiment has its own distinctive style and ethos.  It is very much up to you to find the one that matches your aspirations, personality and interests and has the team of soldiers and officers whom you can relate to, work with and respect.

Find the right team where you can make the best contribution and you should be in no doubt that that is where you will most enjoy, and reap the rewards of, a successful career in the Army.
