Academic Qualifications

There are two fixed criteria you must fulfill to apply for a commission:

AGE

Candidates for a Commission should be over seventeen years and nine months, and under twenty-nine years of age on the date of entry to Sandhurst.

EDUCATION

'GCSE' Equivalent Qualifications:  You need at least at least 35 ALIS points at GCSE (or equivalent) in your best seven subjects.  This must include a minimum of Grade C in English Language and Mathematics and either a Science or Foreign Language.

PLUS

'A' Level Equivalent Qualifications:  A score of 180 UCAS Tariff Points at AS/A Level (or equivalent), which must include 2 A Levels at grade E.
Note:

Not all subjects that attract UCAS Tariff points qualify for Officer entry: these include Music, British Horse Society, Financial Services awards and the General Studies A level.

Visit the UCAS website for more information about ALIS points.

Currently, around 90% of direct entrant cadets at Sandhurst are university graduates.  We do welcome non-graduates who apply for selection but, if you are considering reading for a degree, you should aim to get the best grades that you can.  We do not mind which subjects you study.
