Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations are statutory bodies under the authority of the Reserve Forces Act. They are tri-Service organisations but most of their work is related to the support of the TA and the Army Cadet Force. Within Northern Ireland this role is carried out by the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association for Northern Ireland.
The main functions of the RFCAs include:
Recruiting and publicity for units in the TA.
Provision and maintenance of accommodation for the Volunteer Reserve Forces.
Liaison with employers, trade unions and local authorities.
Exercise EXECUTIVE STRETCH, an exercise designed to give employers a taste of what employees in the Reserves can do.
Administrative direction, support and supervision of financial matters for the Army Cadet Force.
EXERCISE EXECUTIVE STRETCH
RFCA NI inform employers about the benefits of Exercise EXECUTIVE STRETCH, and Exercise MEDICAL CHALLENGE its equivalent for healthcare professionals.
Contact is made with employers in many ways. Exercise EXECUTIVE STRETCH takes civilian executives on training weekends, similar to those undertaken by reservists, in order to gain an insight into the training and methods of the Volunteer Reserve Forces:
Executive Stretch is not designed to recruit, nor is it only for the super-fit. It is designed for men and women with a mixed range of abilities who would like to know more about what being a Reservist entails. It is designed to be fun.
Those taking part are invited to arrive on Friday evening, are briefed on the exercise and receive basic instruction on a variety of military skills.
They then move to a military training area where they undertake a series of tasks, view units and their equipment and talk to the people concerned.
Team work is developed. Participants come away with a stronger sense of their organisational and inter-personal skills.
And finally...those taking part will have enjoyed a stimulating weekend in wild and attractive countryside!
