Opportunities for Sport and Adventure in The Highlanders.

SPORT
Photo 7: Water polo

The Highlanders are keen on sport as a way of keeping fit and having fun. While football is the main sport we also play other team games such as rugby, hockey and basketball; we are currently the Army Shinty Champions. We also encourage individual sports such as cross-country and boxing. In order to make sure that there are plenty of opportunities every Wednesday afternoon is set aside for 'sport for all'. If a soldier or officer arrives at a good standard in a sport then he will be encouraged to not only represent The Highlanders but also The Infantry and the Army as well (we currently have several Army and Combined Services sportsmen). Soldiers and Officers who show promise in a sport will be pushed to develop this skill and again play at Infantry or Army level.
ADVENTURE

Adventure training also plays an important part in life in the Highlanders. Whether you are keen on climbing, canoeing, hill walking, sailing, mountain biking, scuba diving or paragliding, The Highlanders will actively encourage you to take part in one of our many expeditions.

  Photo 9: Down-hill skiing
Each year we send both nordic and down-hill ski teams to the Army Championships and have an outstanding record. The best thing about it is that because we recognise the value of personal development in adventure training, we will subsidise the cost and provide all the equipment that you need, making it much cheaper for you to take part.
