  The 1st Battalion The Highlanders
(Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons)

Where is the Battalion? The Battalion is currently stationed at St Barbara Barracks in Fallingbostel, northern Germany, 20 minutes drive from Hanover. The barracks are co-located with the ranges and training areas required to prepare the Battalion for the armoured infantry role, and subsequently for its high readiness year, where it may be called to deploy anywhere in the world.
     
What does the Battalion do? The Battalion is one of 9 in-role Armoured Infantry Battalions and is approximately 650 personnel in strength. The Battalion is equipped with over 50 Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicles, support weapons and logistic vehicles, both tracked and wheeled.
     
What is the Battalion up to? The Battalion forms part of the prestigious 7 Armoured Brigade - 'The Desert Rats', who fought with distinction in the recent Gulf War and latterly in the first Gulf War. 7 Armoured Brigade became famous after fighting at El Alamein during the 2nd World War.
       
The Battalion's Programme. The Battalion is busy converting to the armoured infantry role. Key events for 2004 and 2005 are:  
  August - September 2005
The Battalion will deploy to Canada to conduct an all arms battlegroup training exercise. This exercise will confirm The Highlander's readiness to deploy on operations world wide.
 
  October 2005 - May 2006
The 1st Battalion is deploying to Iraq with the 7th Armoured Brigade
