Regimental Headquarters - Grenadier Guards

Regimental Headquarters is located in Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London SW1, adjacent to St James’s Park.

The serving Regiment consists of the 1st Battalion, Nijmegen Company and the Regimental Band together with the Grenadier elements of the Training Organisation and Grenadiers individually posted to staff and specialised organisations.  Regimental Headquarters brings the serving element together with those who have served the Regiment in the past, as well as those to whom the Regiment looks to serve in the future.

The Regiment is headed by the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel, an honorary post held by a senior Grenadier officer, either serving or retired.  This appointment is currently held by Brigadier David Maddan.  The Headquarters is the guardian of the history, traditions and the possessions of the Grenadier Guards.  The Headquarters also plays the vital role of dissemination of information in all directions.  Regimental Headquarters organises regimental events, including annually Regimental Remembrance Day and Grenadier Day, and the dining clubs of past and present officers and sergeants of the Regiment.  On special occasions, such as the 350th anniversary in 2006, Regimental Headquarters organised Garden Parties and celebrations in London, Manchester, Worcester and Bruges, in Belgium, with whom the Regiment enjoys close ties.  The Regimental Stores maintains the Home Service Clothing of the Regimental Band, Nijmegen Company, the officers of the Regiment and the soldiers at extra regimental employment.  Regimental Headquarters also maintain the link with the Colonel in Chief, Her Majesty The Queen and with the Colonel of the Regiment, HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The executive staff at Regimental Headquarters consist of the Regimental Adjutant, Lieutenant Colonel Conway Seymour (Major Grant Baker from 13 May 07), the General Secretary of the Grenadier Guards Association, Captain Trevor Rolfe (who is also Regimental Treasurer), and the Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant, J Hawkins.  Regimental affairs are overseen by LSgt Joe Tack and Association affairs by LSgt Jay Ellingham.  Mrs Nayna Shah completes the General office team, and Miss Linda Leppard the Stores staff.  The Regimental records and archives are retained at Regimental Headquarters and the numerous enquiries are handled by LSgt Tack and the Regimental Archivists, retired Grenadier officers who give their time and knowledge to the Regiment.

The Regimental Band are located in Wellington Barracks with the Regimental Adjutant as Band President, and together with the military staff of Regimental Headquarters form 15th Company Grenadier Guards.  The Band’s official website is www.army.mod.uk/bands/grenadier-guards.

The Recruiting team under CSgt Luke is also located with Regimental Headquarters.  They visit traditional Grenadier recruiting areas and maintain close liaison with the 1st Battalion, the Training Organisation and the recruiting sergeants on the ground.  The identification and nurturing of potential Grenadier officers is the responsibility of Captain Olly Saxby who combines this with his duties as Temporary Equerry to HRH The Colonel of the Regiment.
