The Museum was founded by Tommy Collins, later Brigadier Tommy Collins, in 1938.  

In May 1998, the Museum was the winner of the bronze White Rose Award, - the Yorkshire Tourist Board's award for the best Visitor Attraction (under 50,000 visitors)

The museum's collection spans three centuries of travel, campaigning and war.
Artefacts and photographs of the Crimean War, the North-West Frontier of India, the Boer War and archive film of World War 1 form part of the vivid presentation of the Green Howards' story in both peace and war.

Museum Display

The unique Collins' Collection of uniforms and head-dress includes rare examples from 1768 to the present day of the regular Green Howards, North York Militia and Volunteers.

There are more than 3,750 medals and decorations including eighteen Victoria Crosses and three George Crosses presented to members of the Regiment for acts of supreme courage. 16 of the actual Victoria Crosses and 1 of the actual George Crosses are on display.

Learn about the role of the "Ladies, Wives and Women of the Regiment" and find out more about the Green Howards' link with the market town of Richmond and the people of North Yorkshire and Teesside.

School Parties of up to twenty can be accommodated in the Resource Centre where they can see archive film on video, play CD ROM discs and "hands on" material, all linked to the National Curriculum.

Facilities for studying archive materials and library books available by appointment.

There is a Gift Shop with a wide range of souvenirs and attractive gifts to please all age groups. Many items for children costing under £2, and pecially commissioned Green Howards objects.

Adults   £3.00,     OAP's   £2-50     Children   £2.00.
Please note that any resident of Richmond can enter the Museum for FREE. Simply provide evidence of your residence in Richmond!

February, March, and November.   Monday - Friday   10.00 to 4.30.   Closed Saturday and Sunday.

April to mid-May.   Monday - Saturday   9.30 to 4.30.   Easter Day 2.00 to 4.30.

Mid-May - September.   Monday - Saturday   9.30 to 4.30.   Sundays 2.00 to 4.30.

October.   Monday - Saturday   9.30 to 4.30. Closed Sunday.

December and January.   Closed.

Take any of the turnings on the main A1 road that are sign posted to Richmond, between Scotch Corner and Catterick. You will find the Green Howards Museum in the old Trinity Church at the centre of Richmond's market square.
