Regimental Aid

What is it?

The Fusiliers Aid Society exists to help all ranks of the Regimental family who are facing hardship through no fault of their own. There is no shame in seeking assistance; All applications are treated in the strictest confidence and those who are in genuine need of help should not let pride deter them from doing so. All applications for aid are dealt with swiftly and, if the correct procedures are followed, the assistance recommended is usually available within one week, if not sooner.

Who is eligible?

Serving Fusiliers and past members of the Regiment and their widows and dependants.

Are those who served as TA members of the Regiment eligible?

Yes.  The income for the Aid Society is generated by investing contributions made over the years by Regular officers and Fusiliers who contribute, or have contributed, their one day's pay per year to the Regimental charity. Historically, TA soldiers have not contributed, so hitherto only if their hardship or injury could be attributed to their military work (e.g. injured on training or while travelling to the TA Centre) were they likely to receive assistance. The Regiment has recently introduced a scheme to enable serving TA members to contribute, so now all applications, whether relating to a Regular or TA soldier wll be assessed.

What if you served with one of our former, or antecedent Regiments?

Your request, supported by a report from SSAFA Forces Help, will be forwarded to the Area Headquarters in Northumberland, Warwickshire, London or Lancashire that administers the Aid Funds of our former regiments. For example, if you served with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers then any aid given may come from the funds of both regiments.

How to apply?

Serving Fusiliers should apply through their company commander, or equivalent, to the Secretary, The Fusiliers Aid Society at RHQ.

Past members of the Regiment should go direct to SSAFA Forces Help or the County Field Officer of their nearest branch of the Royal British Legion or another service organisation existing to help ex servicemen.

Consider also the recently established Veterans Advice Unit on 08456 020302, charged at local call rates, staffed by experienced warrant officers who offer advice to all former members of the Armed Forces.
