Welcome to the FEPOW website!

In 2000 The British Government announced that certain individuals would qualify for an ex-gratia payment of £10,000 if they met certain qualifying criteria. This scheme wasextended in2002 to include Nepalese Gurkhas who were Prisoners of War - "FEPOW".

To qualify the FEPOW must:

  • have servedin the Old Indian Army
  • have been a Nepali Citizen in 1951 (when the Peace treaty with Japan was signed by the UK)
  • have been captured and imprisoned by the Japanese
  • NOT have served with the Indian National Army

Applications will also be accepted from the widows of FEPOW. The estate of FEPOWs may also claim providing either the FEPOW or his wife was alive on 7 November 2000.

Teams have been established in Kathmandu and Delhi to administer claims with three teams of British and Nepali Staff who will investigate all applications. This will involve an interview for each applicant at a place convenient to him or her. The interview will be conducted inNepali by one of threeInvestigating teams, and the teams will assist any applicant who may need help completing the applicationform.

No claim can be investigated without the Army or Regimental number of the FEPOW.

Anyone wishing to register their interest can do so by email to fepow@wlink.com.np or by post to theaddress below. Please include your name, address and the army number of the FEPOW. If applicable, please also include a contact telephone number and email address.
