| The Dukes
The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (The Dukes) is an Infantry Regiment recruited from West and South Yorkshire. We were formed in 1702 and have fought in all our country's major wars; we have been awarded 9 Victoria Crosses in our 300 year history. |
What does the Infantry do?
The Infantry is at the forefront of the Army. We are technically advanced and require active confident fit young men. The Dukes are equipped with the Warrior armoured fighing vehicle and as such are expected to take the lead in operations. You could find yourself in Bosnia, Kosovo or Northern Ireland. In addition we conduct field training in Poland, Norway, Belize, Jamaica, Oman, Canada, Kenya and Jordan. |
| Why the Dukes?
The Dukes take pride in striking a balance between working as a happy well motivated team and being a professional fighting force. As a soldier or officer in The Dukes youe personal welfare and development is paramount. This ensures the continuing maintenance of comradeship in the regiment. |
Opportunities in The Dukes
Life in the Regiment definitely is not 9 to 5. You could find yourself based anywhere in the world including Germany and Cyprus. As a soldier you will start as a member of an eight man section. In time you could command the section or specialise in different areas including radios, guided weapons, mortars, machine guns, drums, driving or physical training. |
