SIGNALS PLATOON Commanded by a Captain, the Signal Platoon is responsible for all communications in the Battalion, from the central headquarters down to the Companies and also up the chain of command to Brigade Headquarters. |
THE RIFLE COMPANY (ALMA, BURMA, CORUNNA) A rife company is the principle fighting sub unit in a battalion. There are three Rifle Companies in The Dukes; Alma, Burma and Corunna. Each is commanded by a Major who is assisted by a Company Sergeant Major. The Company Group is made up of three platoons, each consisting of three sections. This is displayed in the wire diagram below. The strength of each grouping is in brackets. |
MOTOR TRANSPORT (MT) PLATOON This platoon is in charge of the maintenance, upkeep and co-ordination of the Battalion's vehicle fleet. They will detail vehicles to the relevant Companies and provide drivers and driver training. |
GYM Each Battalion has its own Physical Training Wing, commanded by a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) Sergeant, who is responsible to the Commanding Officer for the overall fitness and physical training of the Battalion. In addition, they provide the facilities and expertise for the Companies to conduct their own fitness programmes. |

THE MORTAR PLATOON The Mortar platoon, commanded by a Captain is equipped with nine individual 81mm Mortars. Each of these mortars can fire either high explosive, smoke or illumination out to 5650 metres. They provide the Commanding Officer of the Battalion with his only guaranteed indirect fire support. |
FIRE SUPPORT COMPANY (SOMME) In The Dukes the fire Support Company is called Somme Company it is responsible for the Battalions direct and indirect fire support assets and will assist the Rifle Companies in all phases of war. It is commanded by a Major, who is assisted by a Company Sergeant Major. The wire diagram below shows the break down of the company and the platoon relative strengths. |

THE MILAN PLATOON The Milan Platoon, commanded by a Captain is the anti-tank platoon. It is equipped with twelve separate firing posts, which can engage armour out to 1950 metres. |

THE RECONNAISANCE PLATOON The Recce platoon, commanded by a Captain, is responsible to the Commanding Officer for searching out the enemy and reporting on his movements, strengths, likely objectives and routes. |

The Duke of Wellington's Regiment A Regiment is made up of Battalions. At present The Duke of Wellington's Regiment has only one battalion the 1st Battalion, which comprises of about 35 Officers and 650 men.
