1995 – Present day

The Battalion returned to England from the Former Republic of Yugoslavia in September 1994 and in February the following year moved to Weeton near Blackpool as the Province Reserve Battalion (PRB).

From here the life of the soldiers and officers of the Battalion continued to be interspersed with fairly frequent unaccompanied tours to Northern Ireland. Together with these commitments, the Dukes continued to sharpen their skills in all aspects of infantry operations.

In 1998 the Battalion moved south to Cavalry Barracks in London to once again take up the role of Public Duties Battalion. From here the Dukes proved they could cut it with the drill experts of the Household Division, but proved their infantry soldiering skills did not suffer as a consequence. Throughout their time in London the Battalion were seen in Belize and Canada as well as Northern Ireland.

March 2000 saw the Dukes move, once again out to Osnabruck, Germany. Here the Battalion re-rolled as an Armoured Infantry Battalion, and rapidly trained in order to meet the deadline for a five month deployment to Kosovo on Operation Agricola.

On returning to Osnabruck the Dukes continued their training. 2002 marked an extra special year for the Regiment. 300 years after Colonel George Huntingdon had raised his 33rd Regiment of Foot, the Dukes celebrated their tercentenary.

The occasion was marked by a Battalion parade and for the first time since 1969, the designation of new sets of Honorary and Regimental Colours. The parade was followed by a pageant, performed by members of the 1st Battalion; thus encapsulating the essence of the 300 year history of the Regiment. With the day rounded off by a celebratory meal for soldiers and officers past and present, old and young the history, camaraderie and Regimental pride of the Dukes was on display for everyone to share.

With the tercentenary celebrations still fresh in their minds, the Battalion were soon back to work. In late 2002 the Dukes were back in West and South Yorkshire covering a strike by the Fire Service. With a company deployed in Kosovo the remainder of the Battalion were preparing to join them when news came that they were to deploy to Iraq to play their part in the War against Terror. As always, the Dukes performed excellently, only enhancing the fine name and reputation forged through the preceding 300 years. In September 2003 they returned to Germany to some much deserved leave.
