Future Manoeuvre Develompent Cell

The Future Manoeuvre Development Cell (FMDC) was established on 1 Jan 04, following direction from the Executive Committee of the Army Board (ECAB).  It is a key initiative within CGS’ drive to develop a more coherent approach to generating future capability by force experimentation and analysis.  As such, it represents a significant change to the way in which we plan for the future.
By concentrating on the Concepts line of development (LoD), and focussing on the period beyond the 10-year Equipment Programme, the FMDC enables our future concepts to lead and inform all other LoDs on the path from ‘Concept to Capability’.

OBJECTIVES

The guiding objectives for the FMDC are to:

  • Provide an authoritative focus for the conceptual development of the emerging and future Army.
  • Provide a nucleus staff for the analysis and experimentation of future concepts.
  • Act as an authoritative point of reference for the equipment capability (EC) area.
  • Act as a counterpart to US and other allied battlelabs.

The short booklet below is designed to provide a handy overview of the Future Manoeuvre Development Cell: its process and, more importantly, its early products.  During 2004 conceptual development and experimentation became the main effort of our work within DGD&D; this focus is set to continue in 2005.  This booklet is commended to you – any feedback would be most appreciated.  For that, and for further information, please contact SO2 FD.
