LOCATION OF CASUALTIES

Update - 18 Nov 1998. The Commission now have their own web site (URL above) which has an online database of over 1.5 million graves from both World Wars. Its a MUST if you are undertaking research into a casualty.

Under the Royal Charter of 1917, the Commission is tasked with maintaining records of all those who died whilst serving with Commonwealth forces during the First and Second World Wars. A full set of these records are held at the Commission's Head Office in Maidenhead, United Kingdom, (and at its offices in other countries) and staff are available to help enquirers locate a particular grave or a name on a memorial. This service is carried out free of charge for relatives of the casualty concerned, but other enquirers have to pay a small fee for the service.

To enable the Commission to successfully identify the location of a casualty, a complete as possible list of the following details of the casualty is required:

  • Surname
  • Rank
  • Forenames
  • Unit/Service
  • Date of Death
  • Age
  • Home Town
  • Place of Death
