Oil Paintings

Picture of Major General David Stewart of Garth

Amongst the many in the Museum is this one of Major General David Stewart of Garth by JM Scrymgeour. 

He served in the 42nd from 1787 - 1804 and was the early historian of the Regiment.

Watercolour

The Regiment has a particularly fine collection of watercolour paintings by the Victorian military artist, Orlando Norie. 

One of these "Halt" shows the 42nd Royal Highlanders at ease during the Crimean era when so many of his pictures were painted.

Prints

Picture of a print by Clayton and published by Ackermann in 1854
The Collection of prints on display includes this mid-nineteenth century illustration of Piper MacIntosh showing him with two officers (Ensign Dunbar and Captain Chisholm) in one side and two soldiers on the other in different forms of dress.  

The print was drawn by B Clayton and published by Ackermann in 1854.

Drawings

Amongst the sketches and drawings is this cartoon of Colonel Alec Brodie DSO, OBE, MC - by a Royal Engineer officer, depicting an incident during fighting in Holland in February 1945 when this gallant, Regimental character advanced down a street carrying an umbrella regardless of the fire fight in progress.

There are many on permanent display in the Museum. Amongst these is this picture taken in 1856 showing veterans of the Crimean War; Piper Muir, Privates Glen and McKenzie and Sergeant Gardiner. 

Two years later, as a Colour Sergeant, William Gardiner was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry during the Indian Mutiny
