Clinic Sessions

Normal clinical hours are Monday to Friday 09.00 - 1600 for appointments (Note; Mondays are reserved mainly for female Colcoscopy clinics). Administration and other commitments normally take up afternoons although patients may be seen during these times.  The clinic is staffed by male and female health care professionals. You may request to be seen by staff of the same sex if you wish. Booking an appointment is preferred, although a walk in system is also in operation. Satellite clinics are held on a weekly and fortnightly basis at Wegberg and Hohne. Please telephone the main clinic in Bielefeld for details of times and to book appointments. Tel Bielefeld Mil 81 3339, Civil 0521 92543339.

Male patients attending the clinic are recommended not to pass urine for a minimum of 3hrs, or longer, prior to their appointment. This will help in making some of the screening tests more accurate, especially when confirming negative tests. It should be noted that it is the length of time since last passing urine is the important factor, not a urine sample brought in some container or full bladder.

Waiting Areas

There are separate male and female waiting areas in the Bielefeld clinic, and shared waiting areas in the Wegberg and Hohne clinics. We aim to keep your waiting time as short as possible. However sometimes delays are unavoidable. Those attending the department for the first time should expect their visit to be about an hour in duration.

Tests and Results

An examination of the genital area is normally required. In addition, the doctor or nurse will take some tests in order to identify the cause of any problem and to exclude certain specific conditions. Routine screening is aimed at excluding such conditions as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, candida, trichomonas, gardnerella and syphilis.
The examination and tests will be explained to you fully beforehand. Only those tests/examination to which verbal consent is given will be carried out.
Results of some tests will be available whilst you wait in the clinic others will be available a week later (depending on the type of tests utilized).
Tests results and findings at examination, will be discussed with you by the examining doctor or nurse.
All treatments in department are free from charges and usually dispensed at the clinic.
