In January 1994 Captain Griffiths was selected to attend the three-year Bandmaster Course at The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall in Twickenham. During that period he was a member of the ‘Golden Eight’ Fanfare Team and played at various State occasions and public events including three Royal Variety Galas. He was also on the UK panel of judges for the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. On successful completion of the course he was one of the first Bandmasters to be awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music, validated by Kingston University, and he also passed the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Licentiate examination, LRSM.

Captain Griffiths’ first appointment as Bandmaster was to The Band of The Parachute Regiment in April 1997, stationed in Aldershot Hampshire. He served for almost four years at the ‘PARAS’ before selection for a posting to The Household Cavalry. Following successful completion of the Household Cavalry Equestrian Course, Captain Griffiths was appointed Bandmaster to The Band of The Blues & Royals (RHG/D) in March 2001 based in Windsor. Whilst in this appointment, he headed a 5-week Short Term Training Team at the Pakistani Army School of Music, Abbottabad in April 2002.

In March 2003, Captain Griffiths returned to The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall and assumed the appointment of Training Design Warrant Officer where he assisted in the design of all courses for the Corps of Army Music. In May 2004, Captain Griffiths was selected to spend a week in Amman, Jordan to undertake a scoping study of the Jordanian Defence Force Bands.

In January 2005, he was commissioned and appointed Director of Music of The King's Division Waterloo Band in Catterick, North Yorkshire. As a result of the MOD study; Future Army Structures, Captain Griffiths remained in Catterick and was appointed Director of Music to one of the newly formed Royal Armoured Corps bands, The Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band in June 2006.
