Background
The ITG has historically carried out Adventure Training (AT) as part of the Common Military Syllabus (CMS). Since 1998 this training has taken place at Sennybridge Camp. Over the last two years the emphasis has changed with a paradigm shift from AT to developing the soldierly qualities of Soldiers under Training (SuT). In order to better integrate the activities of the Wing with the wider CMS, CITG has directed a change in name from Leadership and Initiative Training to Soldier Development. This change was marked by an opening ceremony on 2nd April 2008, where CITG formally re-named the wing.
Journeys are carried out in the following environments:
Mountain
River
Vertical Ground
Underground
Coastal.
Within these environments the staff of SDW provide:
A safe training environment with the perception of danger
Scenarios that present the opportunity to demonstrate the core values.
The SDW Team
SDW is commanded by Capt Mark Field APTC who took over from Capt Steve Higgins on 2nd April. His second in command WO1 (SMI) Humphreys APTC is a notable Army Mountaineer.
