The 9th/12th Royal Lancers have deployed globally on numerous operations and campaigns. The Regiment is not limited to its war-fighting role of reconnaissance but is equally effective in providing protection and stability in peacekeeping theatres and assisting humanitarian missions. Listed below are just a few of the countries to which The Regiment has been deployed.
BOSNIA
The 9th/12th Royal Lancers have deployed to Bosnia on four occasions. Each time they have played a different role, including peacekeeping operations in highly volatile environments; supporting the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR); providing military assistance to civil authorities and providing water and shelter to refugees during humanitarian relief aid projects.
GULF
During the Gulf War the 9th/12th Royal Lancers provided a support troops to the 16th/5th Lancers. Those men provided the Battle Casualty Replacements in the conflict against Iraq.
NORTHERN IRELAND The mission of any British troops being deployed into Northern Ireland is to support the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) in the fight against terrorism, in order to restore the province to a state of normality. The 9th/12th Royal Lancers has been no exception. They have worked alongside the RUC in the Maze Prison; patrolling the streets of Belfast and in riot control and many other stabilisation tasks.
BELIZE
The 9th/12th Royal Lancers deployed to Belize to ensure the integrity of the Belizian border with Guatemala. This required them to maintain border security with constant patrolling and Vehicle Checkpoints (VCPs). This tour lasted 6 months which provided plenty of time for topping up the tan!
CYPRUS A peacekeeping operation involving the Greek & Turkish Cypriots. This was carried out with the consent of the parties concerned in support of efforts to achieve and maintain peace. The 9th/12th Royal Lancers worked along side the Cypriots to help them keep peace and normality in a highly volatile situation.
CANADA The British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) is the primary armoured training ground. This huge prairie was roamed long ago by native Amercan Indians, but now it plays host to huge live-firing excercises. It is here that troops and commanders pit their wits and skills against each other using the latest laser equipment, allowing the presence of a live enemy force. The Regiment is currently preparing to deploy for the 2002 season of 'Medicine Man' exercises, where it will provide the enemy force for the exercising troops. With the experience gained through reconnaissance and previous visits to BATUS, The 9th/12th Royal Lancers will provide a worthy adversary for any of the particpating forces.
