SPECIALIST SKILLS
Specialist skills in the Argylls include:
Infantry Soldiers
Initial training takes place at Glencorse Barracks, Edinburgh, and lasts 12 weeks. A soldier's first course in the Army is at the Infantry Training Centre and will prepare him to take his place, with confidence, alongside his friends in the Battalion.
Drivers
Soldiers are taught to drive motorcycles, cars, land rovers, JCBs and HGVs - free!
Command of Soldiers
As careers develop we train soldiers in the skills needed to lead and to command.
Pipers
As a Highland infantry battalion, we have an active and full time Pipe Band, made up of soldiers with a specialist machine gun role. There are courses to develop piping and composing skills, as well as soldiering skills.
Drummers
Drummers are also taught to play the bugle. Along with the pipers they provide the specialist machine gunners in the Battalion.
Medical Assistants
We train our medics to provide high quality first aid. They can also become specialists with more developed skills.
Tailors
Soldiers are trained to make and alter uniforms and in the many other skills of tailoring.
Storemen
A modern infantry battalion has a mass of sophisticated equipment to lookafter. Storemen are trained in all aspects of store's accounting and equipment management, including City and Guilds and NVQ assessment.
