I am sure you are all aware of the work HQ APTC has been carrying out on a new education structure for the Corps, as part of Whole Life Development (WLD) for details refer to CMP Chapter 6. The APTC is in the process of entering into a partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) who will be providing degree opportunities from Class 1 training onwards. From July 07 the Class 1 course will have the opportunity to complete a Foundation Degree (FD) in Sport, Health and Fitness during their training, culminating with them graduating with an FD at pass out, replacing the Cert Ed previously undertaken with MMU. This in effect means they will have completed 2 years of their degree and will then choose which area of specialisation (PTI, RI & ATI) they wish to complete for their full honours degree for a further 2 years. It is anticipated that APTCIs will have completed their full honours degrees by the end of their first/second tour. The following attachements are fact sheets for the degrees available-Sports coaching, Physiotherapy, Outdoor leadership, Sports therapy, Strength and Conditioning and Rehabilitation studies, but more will be available shortly...
APTC Mid Career Opportunities:
Definition
Members of the APTC who have completed Class 1 training before the current course (Apr 07), and hold the qualification of Cert Ed Sports Science.
Reasoning
In order to provide opportunities to mid career APTCIs a number of degree courses have been offered by UCLan. These courses are the same as offered to the FD students and will mostly take 2 years to complete, with the exception of a bridging module at the start of the course. The aim of the bridging module is to re-introduce university level writing skills.
Study Mode
Students will study in cohorts arranged with UCLan. UCLan are aware of the need for flexibility of learning with service students and have developed various teaching aids to support this. Service students will be able to learn by direct internet link to tutorials, CD teaching packs and direct contact weekends.
Funding
There will be a number of funding options available centred around the drawing of ELC from April 08. For a copy of the ELC application form click here.
It is my intention to use the APTC website as the medium for publicising all courses and those APTCIs who are on respective courses. It should be noted that initial contact/registration will be through SO3 P&P however, once registered as a student all further contact will be between UCLan and the student. APTCIs are requested not to contact UCLan direct, this will only result in diversion to me.
In summary, the FD goes live from July 07 with full degree courses for mid career APTCIs starting in Sept 07 onwards.
If anyone requires any further information or advice do not hesitate to contact me, SO3 P&P.
