Families Journal - AFJ
Inside the Autumn 2008 edition

Read the digital version of the Autumn Edition. You will need Adobe Flash Player version 9 to view which can be downloaded for free.
The autumn AFF Families’ Journal is packed full of useful information for Army families around the world. In this edition, the Adjutant General, Lieutenant General Sir Freddie Viggers KCB CMG MBE, who is retiring after 36 years of military service, talks in an exclusive interview with the Journal about his career, the role of the soldier and the future of the Army. Our Education feature looks at Academies – the new type of state secondary school, plus we look into ways to beat the school bully. From a personal view on how to cope with postnatal depression, ways for TA families to keep in touch and how to work in the UK as a non-UK born spouse, there’s something for everyone in this AFJ and – as usual – our postbag section is a scorcher and well worth a read!
Summer seems to have been and gone in a flash, and the memory of the AFF Families’ International Conference in June is already fading – although the ripples created on the day are still working their way through the chain of command! This issue has a round up on the event and as expected, housing was the biggest issue of the day. Families did not hold back in voicing their concerns and our five-page spread covers some of the hot topics including poor move-in standards and allocations. The afternoon debate raised some equally heated questions from the floor from support for our soldiers after operational tours to ‘normalisation’ in Northern Ireland. Something To Shout About was the Conference theme – and Army families had plenty they want the politicians and chain of command to hear.
