Sports activities and skills development play a big part at AFC(H). We see them as an excellent way of developing team spirit while also helping you to build up confidence in your own abilities. As part of the training programme, you get the chance to learn new sports and skills, or improve on existing ones. Every Wednesday you spend the afternoon playing sport, which could be as part of one of the many college teams, or a more informal game of five-a-side football with your platoon. You will also have the opportunity to practice your sport or skill during the evenings.
There is a huge range of sporting activities to choose from, including football, rugby (union and league), basketball, athletics, judo and swimming. But as part of the Sport and Skills programme, you also have the chance to participate in go-karting, motorcycling, mountain biking, power lifting, karate, target rifle shooting, sub-aqua diving, gymnastics and cross country running. Each Junior Soldier will choose one sport and one skill to take part in during his or her time here. You also have the chance to go on one of the many expeditions that the College organises. This could involve scuba diving in Cyprus, mountain biking in France or going on a rugby tour to Australia.
