What Do Others Think Of Us?

To be named as one of the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) best providers, organisations have to achieve a grade 1 or 2 at inspection for all their headline grades, excluding quality improvement or equality of opportunity. This year, 151 providers gained this distinction, compared with 100 last year and the Army Foundation College (AFC) was one of the 151 providers.

The following quotations are all taken from the 2005 and 2006 Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) inspection reports, of the AFC.

Pin Red "There is an excellent range of additional sport, skills and physical training linked with personal development and, in some cases, leading to formal qualifications."

Pin Red "The AFC has a good range of appropriate purpose-built medical facilities, including a 20 bed unit for recruits with minor illnesses, and a well-equipped and staffed physiotherapy unit."

Pin Red "Confidentiality is particularly well maintained, but sufficient information is shared to enable informed actions."

Pin Red "Recruits have sensitive and constructive support from the Staff."

Pin Red "The AFC was also identified as one of the country's "best providers" of Vocational Education in the Adult Learning Inspectorate's (ALI) Chief Inspector's Report for 2005-2006."

Pin Red "Permanent staff provide good support and understanding for the recruits in their Platoons. They maintain appropriate discipline, but respond sensitively and constructively to a very wide range of challenging personal, social and academic problems, and to tensions in the sections."

Pin Red "The management of welfare and duty of care is a strength. Problems are dealt with quickly and improvements are continually made."

Pin Red "Recruits are well supervised. During the early stages of the programme there are plenty of staff available to support and supervise the recruits."

Pin Red "AFC Harrogate's recreational and sporting facilities and activities are very good. The gymnasium and swimming pool are impressive, and there is a very good range of cardiovascular and local muscular conditioning equipment. AFC has a snack bar and a games area, a shop. a learning resource centre and a lecture theatre that doubles as a cinema at the weekends."

Pin Red "The confidence and motivation of the recruits remains a strength. Recruits recognise their achievements and are very proud of them. Many describe how they have matured and become self-confident. They quickly develop a good understanding of teamwork and the need to support their peers."
