Michael Rodham
Officer Cadet Michael Rodham - 3 Section 2IC, 6 Platoon
I joined the UOTC to experience some aspects of military life and see if it was really something I would enjoy.
I really like the outdoor nature of the UOTC as we train in some spectacular parts of the countryside.
I also appreciate the strong sense of camaraderie within the unit and I have made some good friends, who have helped me through the training.
My personal fitness has improved dramatically since I joined, and this is something that I would have definitely lacked the motivation to do on my own.
I have also gained experiences that I would not be able to get, or even afford, in civilian life; and on top of it all, I get paid to do it!
If you are looking for a way to keep fit, earn money and follow outdoor activities, then I would seriously recommend the UOTC.
It is designed to test your abilities and stretch you. The sense of achievement when you overcome these challenges is something you can be really proud of.
If, like me, you are thinking about joining the Armed Forces after university, then you should join to get an insight into what things are like before you sign up.
If you are not interested in joining the Armed Forces after university, I would still highly recommend the UOTC to you; it is a challenging experience that will look great on your CV and now, more than ever before, students need to show that they can go that extra mile to impress employers. The UOTC can put those extra miles on your clock!
