THE WELFARE CENTRE

The Welfare Centre is located in MB 3 and houses the Welfare Officer, his staff and the Padre’s office.  Other facilities include The Coffee Pot, Hairdressers, Unit Post Office, Cyber Centre, the PRI Shop, Beauticians and O’Girke Travel Agency. The PRI Shop offers a range of products at competitive prices. There are a number of welfare support agencies that provide secondary welfare support. They are professional support agencies that exist within the Garrison area and include the following:

·                     Army Welfare Service (AWS): each AWS team consists of trained Army Welfare Workers who provide professional counselling. AWS also support youth and community activities. They can be contacted on Civil   +49 (0)5051or Hohne Military 2741.

·                     Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen’s and Families Association (SSAFA)*: provide a social work service and most of services you could expect to find in the UK.  They also supervise and inspect amenities such as kindergartens and childminders and can assist with issues such as adoption or fostering.

·                     Help Information Volunteer Exchange (HIVE) Centre*: situated in the Roundhouse and serves to provide impartial advice, assistance and information to all personnel. Contact tel no: +49 (0)5051962303.  Opening times: 9.00 – 3.00 Mon – Fri.

·                     HOMESTART*: located in the Roundhouse this is a voluntary organisation that offers support, friendship and practical help to young families who may have difficulty in coping particularly if the spouse is absent on operations, exercises etc.

·                     WRVS*: located in the WB4 and provides advice and support to single soldiers.

·                     Another great source of information is the Hohne HIVE* which is located in the Roundhouse.  They will provide information on a host of issues ranging from claiming benefits to what to do.  A list of useful numbers can be found here*
