Location

Hohne Camp is located on the Luneburg Heath in Niedersachsen Northern Germany near to Bergen, which is situated between the cities of Hannover, Hamburg and Bremen.

Hohne is one of three British Army Stations in the Garrision, which is the home of 7th Armoured Brigade (The Desert Rats). The other two stations   are Fallingbostel and Celle.

With the Regiment located in Germany there are many differences and opportunities compared to life in the Army in the UK.

All married accompanied members of the Regiment live in either houses or flats in Garrison.  Soldiers live in Bergen village or on Hohne Camp

Wavell Centre in Bergen village offers Pre-School Education.
Montgomery School – Primary School located within Hohne Camp.
Slim School – Primary School located within the married quarter area of Bergen
Gloucester School – Secondary School located within Hohne Camp.
42 Army Education Centre – Offers courses for soldiers and their families.
Regimental Army Learning Centre – Offers IT courses for Personal Development whether it be in the form of Learn Direct courses or access to e-mail.

NAAFI supermarket selling food, clothing and electrical items.

The Garrison Labour Support Unit (GLSU) employs dependents in various lines of work and offers Career opportunities for the majority of dependants. 

Local German Towns and Cities

Bergen is the nearest town to Hohne camp. Although the town is small it offers the majority of amenities.  British Soldiers have been based in Bergen for the last 60 years and the majority of German residents speak English. The town of Celle is located about 30 minutes by car from Bergen and offers wider opportunities to shop.
