Hermes 450 is a tactical UAV that will become operational in mid 2007. Members of 32 Regiment are currently training in preparation for its delivery and deployment and it will greatly enhance our ISTAR capabilities.
DESERT HAWK
Desert Hawk is an extremely versatile and small UAV designed for discrete operations. It is operated normally at the company level but is equally well employed above and below this. It has an extremely good record proven over the last year supporting both 16 Air Assult and 3 Commando Brigades in Afghanistan. It provides an excellent 'over the hill' view for commanders on the ground.
BUSTER
Buster is an American UAV that is only flown in the UK. It is another mini UAV made from carbon fibre and launched from a small portable rail. Buster enables 32 Regiment to fully support training for those about to deploy to theatre giving them an insight into UAV capabilities and integration whilst ensuring all resources required are available to the Batteries currently deployed.
PHOENIX
The Phoenix unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an all weather, day or night, real time surveillance and target acquisition system. Pheonix's surveillance suite is datalinked to a ground station which, in turn, transmits the intelligence gathered directly to artillery command posts. The Phoenix UAV is almost entirely made from Kevlar, glass fibre, carbon reinforced plastics and Nomex honeycomb; and is powered by a 25hp two stroke flat twin engine. The UAV can be launched within an hour of reaching launch site. Up to 2 UAVs can be controlled from the same ground contol station.
WATCHKEEPER
Watchkeeper will be the new tactical UAV system for the British Army. It comes into service in 2010. Soldiers from the Regiment are currently working with Thales, the company delivering the system.
