Away from the training halls and shooting ranges, cadets across the country are involved in an activity that rewards their dedication with new friends, teambuilding skills and a great sense of achievement: music.

For the last 5 years, there has been an annual increase in cadets and adults taking their places in an ACF band. Currently, nearly half of all counties have their own band, with over 1200 cadets playing nationally. Whatever their standard or choice of instrument, all are welcome to join, and once they reach a reasonable level, they are able to take part in their band's busy schedule of engagements both in Britain and abroad.

But it's not just camaraderie and a well-stamped passport that cadets can gain. By following a structured syllabus, they can now gain BTECs and NVQs in music - a development that has meant music is now established as a core subject within the ACF.

Twice a year, all ACF bands gather for a 'Concentration', a week-long music camp in which over 500 cadets at all levels play and learn together, culminating in a series of examinations and performances in one of the largest musical ensembles in the country. Bands are also in demand for military tattoos and parades all year round, with the Malta Tattoo one of the highlights.
