Operation TELIC 6  May - November 2005

205 in Shaibah

205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) have just returned from Operation TELIC 6 in Iraq, having completed a six month tour from May to November 2005, providing the Field Hospital for Coalition Forces in the south of the country. The hospital was located in Shaibah Logistic base near Basrah and was staffed by 116 personnel.

The Field Hospital perfomed in an outstanding manner; working in austere conditions with summer temperatures reaching highs in excess of 52 Degrees Celsius. At the close of the deployment the Field Hospital had treated 2338 casualties and admitted 822 patients, of which 49 were from hostile action. The staff performed 139 surgical operations, undertook 54 CT scans and evacuated 268 patients out of Theatre, of which 7 required critical care support. It is also reported with regret that the remains of 21 deceased were repatriated, 5 of whom were British Servicemen.
