A (Aberdeen) Squadron 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (Volunteers)

Aberdeen Squadron of 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) can be traced back to 1889 when the Bearer Company was formed, of which 205 Fd Hosp (V) is a direct descendant. The centenary celebrations were held at Gordon Barracks on 1 April 1989. In 1906 the Unit was renamed as 1 (Highland) Field Ambulance in support of 1 Highland Division. In 1922 the Unit was disbanded. The Unit was reformed in 1937 as 153 Field Ambulance and served, with distinction, during World War II. In 1947 with the reorganisation of the Territorial Army, the Unit was renamed 152 Field Ambulance until 1967 when on further reorganisation it became 252 (Highland) Field Ambulance RAMC (Volunteers). 252 (H) Fd Amb RAMC (V) was deleted from the Order of Battle on 30 September 1995 and became Aberdeen Squadron of 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) on 1 October 1995.

The University of Aberdeen is Scotland's third oldest and the fifth oldest in the UK. Aberdeen is an international university built on serving one of the most dynamic regions of Europe. It is at the forefront of teaching and research in medicine, the humanities and sciences. Undergraduates considering a miltary career are well placed to sample military life through Aberdeen Squadron. Many have become the backbone of 205 while others have advanced their military and medical career in the Regular Army.

NHS Grampian has a very close relationship with the University of Aberdeen and  Robert Gordon University. Through this we recruit many of our Doctors, Nurses and other Allied Health Professionals. The area covered is large from Stonehaven in the south east to Fraserburgh and Forres at it's northern extremes. However other skills are required and employment outside the NHS does not preclude anyone from joining 205 in Aberdeen. Some of our members travel from outwith the Grampian area to train with us.
