102 Battalion REME

The Battalion Pipe Band

102 Battalion is unique in that it has the only Pipe Band in the Corps of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. The band originated at Clifford's Fort in South Shields in 1902, it has a long and proud history. During the Great War the band was part of the Tyne Division, known as the Tyne Electrical Engineers (TEE).

The band is 22 strong and is based at the TA Centre, Rhodes Street Walker Newcastle upon Tyne. It carries out some 80 engagements a year with different levels of involvement; these include formal dinners, concerts, gala days and parades. In addition to local and UK engagements the Band has performed throughout Europe including the Czech Republic, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, Romania, Macedonia and Spain. Wherever it plays the Band receives excellent reviews, and is frequently booked for repeat performances.

The Band is always on the lookout for new members, experienced and beginners. Band members do not have to join the TA but have the option if they should wish.
