Research at The National Archives

Research underpins much of what we do at The National Archives: capturing the historical record of government, preserving digital and paper records, and providing effective services to researchers.

The National Archives is recognised by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as an Independent Research Organisation.

As an originator and supporter of research, we maintain an innovative programme to develop and test new ideas, for the benefit of government, information and preservation professionals.
