Role of the Joint International Unit

The Joint International Unit (JIU), which also serves the Department for Work and Pensions and Department for Children, Schools and Families, plays a key role in taking forward the international agenda of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).

The JIU provides support, advice and guidance to Ministers and policy makers on the international dimension in education. It ensures effective representation in cross-Whitehall departmental groups, the EU and other international fora so that the UK's education policies and programmes are promoted and explained. The JIU also takes the lead in developing and promoting collaboration in education with our priority countries.
