Brought up in Spain, I moved to the UK in 1992 and joined Barclays Bank in 1996, where I held a number of international positions in London, Miami, New York and Mumbai.

In July 2006 I joined UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), to deliver a new marketing strategy for the organisation, promoting and showcasing the UK economy’s strengths within the context of globalisation like never before.

.._ _._ _ .. continues to take it to the world!

If you looked at the title of this blog and thought I’d lost control of my keyboard, you probably remembered you’d just been on the google homepage today (April 27th) only to be greeted by _ _ . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . [...]

Take It To The World. Go Further. Export.

As I fly back home to London from Toulouse on a personal trip, I can’t think of a better place to fly from whilst thinking about our new message for UK businesses. Toulouse is the HQ of Airbus, a success story in which the UK has much to be proud of. It is from here [...]

This time last year…what were your predictions for 2008?

It’s December and the human psyche can’t help it: we love predicting what will happen over the next 12 months. Not something we do any other month but the end of a year and the start of another seem like an ideal time to look into that crystal ball.

Last week I was at the UKTI-organised ‘Britain in [...]

Time to make a jump to a New Age?

I was lucky enough to attend The Economist’s 7th Annual Innovation Awards Dinner yesterday in London. Saying I was lucky is an under-statement as the winners were a who’s who of innovators who have changed the world. Nobel Prize winner Sir Martin Evans, the father of stem cell research; Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia; [...]

We’re all in need of some Ryder Cup spirit!

Team USA vs Team Europe. Whether you like golf or not, I’ve always thought there’s something rather special about the Ryder Cup. In my case, I have no real interest in the game, but come September of every other year, I am all over it. I find it fascinating to see how one of the [...]

How I Visited 86 Countries in Two Days!

Well…actually, I was only in one country, Spain. Nevertheless, during my time at the Zaragoza International EXPO, I did indeed visit 86 national pavilions out of a total of 101.
Expecting 5M visitors over three months, the EXPO’s theme is “Water and Sustainable Development” and countries promoted their progress and innovation in this field as well [...]

Reality is nothing. Perception is everything.

I am writing this first post from Istanbul, a magical city spread across two continents. I have just attended our Global Marketing Conference at which we shared our exciting initiatives to continue promoting and showcasing the UK like never before. The theme of the conference was: Reality is nothing. Perception is everything. Why is this [...]
