Thinking Business in Policy: Developing our industrial capability

Across its work - whether it is developing public policy, setting targets, building up our infrastructure, regulating industry or procuring goods and services - Government as both customer and shaper has a profound effect on markets.

In New Industry, New Jobs, we set out how Government could use that unique role to better effect to help British-based companies succeed and grow in the global economy of the future.

That means a change in the way we operate. With Government working, across the public sector to develop its expertise in understanding how our policies impact business and where they can create even greater growth.

To make that happen, policymakers need the right guidance and frameworks in which to work, and this Thinking Business in Policy (PDF, 718 Kb)  report details Government action to develop and deliver that approach. It sets out our progress so far and plans for the future.

Our focus is to drive innovation, ensure public resources are targeted to achieve maximum results and foster the enterprise that will create jobs and business opportunities in the years ahead. We’re now working across Government to implement these measures in key policy areas and beyond.
