Learning and Skills Improvement Service

The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) aims to develop excellent and sustainable further education and skills provision by encouraging the sharing of expertise, experience and insight from the sector to sector. LSIS also provides access to a range of sector relevant programmes, platforms and services through www.lsis.org.uk and www.exellencegateway.org.uk

With greater emphasis being placed on accountability and responsibility, the sector is striving for excellence in a complex and resource limited environment.  LSIS has developed a range of services to help the sector improve whilst delivering to new agendas.  Following a sector-wide consultation LSIS has set out five platforms to serve the main interests of the sector.

The five strategic platform aims are:

  • accelerating improved teaching, training and learning - inspiring practice, improving effectiveness
  • reinvigorating curriculum design by building further capability and capacity for innovative and effective development of learning programmes
  • enhancing leadership, governance and management for improvement, innovation and change
  • energising improvement through new ways of working, innovation and efficiency
  • supporting the sector to influence the future - using policy analysis, research and strategic intelligence, locally and nationally.

These will be underpinned by a new way of working and listening to learners, employers and communities; a theoretical understanding of what works in improvement and strategic change; equality and diversity; technology and e-learning; continuous improvement; and by LSIS's own drive for improvement to become an exemplar organisation.
