Trade Associations
The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) is the international trade association for not-for-profit publishers and those who work with them. Their mission is to connect, train and inform the scholarly and professional publishing community and to be an advocate on behalf of the non-profit publishing sector.
The UK Association of Online Publishers (AOP) is an industry body representing digital publishing companies that create original, branded, quality content. AOP champions the interests of media owners from diverse backgrounds including newspaper and magazine publishing, TV and radio broadcasting, and pure online media.
The NS represents and promotes the interests of Britain's regional and local media. The sector is focused on providing local news and information across its 1300 daily and weekly, paid-for and free newspaper titles, as well as 1500 websites, 600 niche/ultra local titles, 43 radio stations and two TV stations. Their mission is to be the voice of Britain's regional and local media, by promoting newspapers' interests in all political, legal and regulatory matters and promoting their strengths as news and marketing media.
The PPA promotes the interests of the UK magazine and business media industry in every way possible. They seek to protect their members from damaging restrictions on press freedom and other issues and has a strong interest in training and development. They accredit twelve university courses in the UK. They are part of the European and worldwide magazine organisations, and are part of the funding bodies for the Press Complaints Commission and the Advertising Standards Authority. PPA member companies also produce a range of directories, and organise conferences, exhibitions and awards.
This is the trade association for book, journal and electronic publishers in the UK Their mission is to strengthen the trading environment for UK publishers, by providing a strong voice for the industry in government, within society and with other stakeholders in the UK, in Europe and internationally; providing a forum for the exchange of non-competitive information between publishers; and providing support and guidance to the industry through technological and other changes.
Publishing Scotland is the network body for the book publishing industry in Scotland, working to promote and protect the interest of its members, both nationally and internationally.
The Scottish Newspaper Publishers Association (SNPA) is the trade association representing publishers of 100 weekly and bi-weekly newspapers and a further 30 free distribution newspapers. It provides an overview of the industry and current issues of importance, as well as a range of services including the promotion of The Scottish Weekly Press.
The Data Publishers Association (DPA) is the industry body representing data and directory publishers in the UK. Its role is to protect and promote the interests of the industry, both in print and electronic media.
The Publishers' Content Forum (PCF) is an informal alliance of trade associations, businesses and representative organisations at both UK and EU level from across the digital and print publishing sector whose business interests lie in the creation and commercial exploitation of digital and print content.
The Welsh Books Council is a national body, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, which provides a focus for the publishing industry in Wales. Details of training courses, seminars and events for publishers in Wales are posted on its website. The Books Council actively promotes reading and literacy in Wales.
STM is an international association of about 100 scientific, technical, medical and scholarly publishers, Representing all types of STM publishers - large and small companies, not for profit organisations, learned societies, traditional, primary, secondary publishers and new entrants to global publishing. Their mission is to create a platform for exchanging ideas and information and to represent the interest of the STM publishing community in the fields of copyright, technology developments, and end user / library relations.
Founded in 1966, the European Association of Directory Publishers (EADP) owes its existence to the aspirations of European publishers who anticipated the importance of intra-European contact and co-operation. Today, the EADP has some 180 members in 36 countries world-wide, including member companies based in the 27 EU member states but also in the candidate countries : publishers, suppliers of products and services for the publishing industry and 5 national associations representing 340 directory publishers.
