Creative Industries

This policy area is now the responsibility of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). This page and all related content will be migrated to the DCMS website shortly, when details are finalised and announced to Parliament.

These are industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through innovation and the generation and exploitation of intellectual property. This is increasingly driven by the creation of digital content and the development of new business models, new digital applications and services. The Creative Industries Sector contributes over 6.2% of UK Gross Value Added and is growing at a faster rate than the econmomy as a whole. BIS works closely with Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), who are the sponsors for film, broadcasting, performing arts and music industries, and coordinate policy on creative industries in Whitehall.
