Better Regulation for Civil Society Organisations
What are Civil Society Organisations?
Civil Society Organisations include not for profit businesses (social enterprises), charities, community and voluntary organisations, housing associations, cooperatives and mutuals. They are affected by much of the same regulation as other businesses and employers, as well as specific regulatory requirements arising from their legal form and the sector in which they work.
Civil Society Red Tape Taskforce
In order to ensure that Civil Society Organisations find it as easy as possible to operate and grow, in July 2010 the Government launched a Taskforce of leading professionals from the sector, asking them to consider the question "How can we reduce the bureaucratic burden on small organisations, particularly in the charitable, voluntary and social enterprise sectors?"
The Taskforce is being supported by officials in the Better Regulation Executive, as well as colleagues from the Office for Civil Society, part of the Cabinet Office.
