Hood cords, bunk beds and prams and pushchairs are subject to specific safety Regulations, namely the Children’s Clothing (Hood Cords) Regulations 1976, the Bunk Beds (Entrapment Hazards) (Safety) Regulations 1987 and the Wheeled Child Conveyances (Safety) Regulations 1997.
From 1 March 1987, tougher performance requirements regarding flammability came into force. They are compulsory for children's nightdresses and dressing gowns.
The safety of other child use and care products is covered by the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
A research report published in November 1999 entitled "Choking Risks to Children" evaluated the effectiveness of the ‘small parts cylinder’ test in preventing choking accidents to children under four from small toys or parts of toys.
