We're creating a single website for everything to do with BIS but, while we do that, you'll find information in three places. > Find what you're looking for
A Study of individual Producer Responsibility (IPR) is one of the principle streams of work to be undertaken by the WEEE Advisory Board (WAB) during 2010. The aim is to provide BIS officials and the Minister with an overview of opinion within the industry about this issue and, if appropriate, a recommendation on how IPR might be practically and realistically implemented in the UK.
To help with this work, a subgroup of the WAB will be seeking evidence from a number of key external stakeholders (IPR Experts, Producers, Other External Groups) and if you would like to take part in this process, please could you send an e-mail to this effect to Peter Calliafas at petercalliafas@btinternet.com setting out a) the name of your organisation, b) which of the three stakeholder groups you represent and c) your contact details. The deadline for responses is 1st April 2010.
The IPR programme plan and promised timetable can be found down the right hand side of this page.
Annual Report for 2008/9
The first WAB annual report has been submitted to the Minister. A copy will be made available on the website in due course.
The disposal of small household WEEE remains a prevalent issue. The WAB has been in close contact with WRAP regarding the awareness campaign. Product Regulation Seminars are taking place in Bristol (19th Nov), Reading (27th Nov), Manchester (30th Nov), Cambridge (2nd Dec), Birmingham (12th Jan) and Leeds (14th Jan).
A Re-Use specification has been produced with significant input and support from external stakeholders. A business case including recommendations has been submitted to BIS for consideration.
The first sub-group meeting will be held in December 2009. The group plan to develop a fact base of understanding about IPR; gather written evidence from external stakeholders on implementation; examine and consider the various models and best practise and; produce a report setting out how IPR could be practically implemented in the UK.
New appointments to the WAB are currently being considered following a recent recruitment exercise. Announcements will be made shortly.
The Government announced on 3 December 2007 the creation of an independent non-governmental public body on the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.
Members were appointed on an independent basis to represent particular areas/fields of expertise and experience relevant to the WEEE Regulations, rather than as delegates of particular organisations or interest groups.
The WAB consists of individuals from various industry sectors and will provide independent advice for the development of the WEEE system.
For further information on the Chair and members see the document on the right hand side.
The WAB will meet at least quarterly at BERR Conference Centre. Additional meetings will be convened by the Chair when it is considered appropriate and necessary.
For information on forthcoming meeting dates see WAB Meetings.
The WAB Terms of Reference has been approved by the Minister. The roles and responsibilities of the WAB are set out in the operational and governance framework.
All documents can be downloaded from the right hand side.
Papers and minutes arising from this event and from any future meetings will also be published on the website. It is intended that approved minutes will be published within 4 weeks of the subsequent meetings.
The WEEE Advisory Body aims to publish a short progress report each year, commencing 2009, summarising the key work areas, progress and other achievements.
